Last year, The FUDGE Foundation began collaborating with Dayton Public Schools to put together an inclusive, student focused gun violence prevention program. The program meets four times throughout the school year, and participates in an end-of-the-year essay contest. While the school year is not yet over, this program has been a unique opportunity for Mr. Green to connect with and speak about his story with the youth in the Dayton and Springfield area.
As of 2022, gun violence became the number one cause of death of children, it is important to care about their future and actively attempt to make it safer. Even though the youth are hardly to blame for the amount of guns on the streets and the lack of adequate and effective gun-safety legislation, it is imperative that they are equipped with the tools and knowledge to practice gun-safety, not only for themselves, but for others in their community as well.
W are excited for the last discussion panel of the school year, and cannot wait to read the essays from the students. The FUDGE Foundation hopes to continue working with and building up the Dayton Public School students, working towards intentional change to pave the way for a brighter and safer future.
