Haitian Non-Profit in Springfield Files Citizen Criminal Charges Against Trump & Vance

As you are probably aware, the small city of Springfield, Ohio, has become the target of violence from outside the community after Donald Trump spread unsubstantiated racist claims about the Haitian residents of Springfield. Since the initial statement by Donald Trump, JD Vance and other far-right members of the Republican Party have doubled-down on the vicious lie that pets and local wildlife are being killed and eaten, and have only added fuel to the fire.

Following these claims, the city of Springfield has received numerous threats of violence from those outside the community who only wish to do harm. As a result of the rumors being bolstered, Springfield has been in a state of anxiety, as the city has received a string of bomb threats towards city, prompting the closure of city and school buildings, including Wittenberg University to which Springfield is home.

In addition to threats and small Proud Boys demonstration, the Haitian residents are now living in a state of fear, as many of them have reported that they are afraid to send their kids to school, or even go to church. Some are considering leaving Springfield altogether, while others have been encouraged by the solidarity of the community, local leaders, the police department, and city officials. While the unity that has been sparked among the residents of Springfield is hopeful, it is unclear how long it will take for the damage that has been to to be reversed so that the city can move on.

On Tuesday, the Haitian Brigade Alliance, a non-profit that represents and supports the Haitian community, has filed charges against former President Trump and his running mate, in the wake of the threats and chaos that the Springfield community has experienced ever since the debate. Trump and Vance are being charged with disrupting public services, creating false alarms, telecommunications harassment, aggravated menacing, and complicity. The charge also asks the Clark County Municipal Court to affirm that there is probable cause, and asks that they issue arrest warrants against Trump and Vance.

Unfortunately, the residents of Springfield, Ohio will have to be patient and resilient while they wait for the rumors to die down. We hope that they will get justice and support as they navigate through such unwarranted and dehumanizing terrain.
